The Straw

I just wrote this answer in someone else's survey and I liked it so much that I am going to put it in here. I'll even modify it a little bit to make it longer and more detailed....Also, read today's earlier entry here!!

And now, a story:

Once upon a time there was a beautiful straw. She was a glorious shining green hue and smelled of a sterility that no other could parallell. She lived in a streamlined little white wrapper. It was cozy in her wrapper, she had everything she needed. Warmth, shelter, a good home. But little straw knew that something was missing. She felt a hole in her heart. She was alone. And there was something else. She knew that there was something coming. She had been having terrible dreams lately of flying and falling and succumbing to darkness. In her heart she knew that her comfortable life couldn't last forever. There was a sense of foreboding and unrest in her belly. One morning, she awoke with a tremble. She could hear the sound of rustling and felt a pressure from outside the wrapper that she had never experienced before. Suddenly she was tossed about within the warm confines of her little wrapper and her stomach dropped as she felt a sudden rising. Feeling sick and knowing that her day had come, she bared down and braced herself as she was pushed screaming through the safety of her home into the blinding, ice cold air. Feeling the dreamlike motion of flying through the air, she opened her eyes and saw beneath her a vastness; hundreds upon thousands of other wrappers pressed together tightly, side by side. She saw the others like her. And as she died, drowned in a brown and tickly sickly sweet fluid, she knew that she had never really been alone, all along.

The end.
